Perrrritos

Hola a todos!

They call this my third week, but it feels like it hasn’t even been that long.

Let’s start out by talking about my new mom (this might sound kinda weird) Hermana Alicia Tingey. Yup I know, right? My trainers name is the same as my mom’s and let’s get even weirder, she’s only got two transfers left in her mission. As soon as I’m done with training she’s going home. So, I’m killing my mom (trainer) in May and then I’ll be left here to be the senior companion in the area.

Unless they whitewash it. I hope they don’t do that. This area has a lot of potential, I know that, but it’s hard right now because a lot of people close to the house have been contacted because of lazy missionaries that don’t like to walk far and it takes like two plus hours to walk anywhere else. So I’m doing a lot of walking and making a lot of friends on the street.

When I first got here there were already three people lined up for baptism over the next month, but every single one of them has decided to push it back. One of them even decided to move her date back into May 20th!!!!  It’s crazy. I don’t know how to help her understand that she’s ready. Gambian, everybody smokes here and parties a lot and it’s hard for people to give that up, so a lot of our investigators have been dropping us.

I hope we can have more luck within the next few weeks. I really feel like it must be all my fault. As soon as I got here everything seemed to be falling apart. I’m moving forward with faith and trust that Dios sees the big picture and will help me do his will.

Also, lo siento pero I don’t have a lot of pictures of my house right now, I’ll send more later but I need to remember to take more pictures. I don’t wanna look like some tourist-y gringa. I’ll attach some pictures of random things, but hopefully they’re cool random things to you guys.

My house only has a hotplate, microwave, and a toaster. We don’t do a lot of fancy things here. But I hear in the mountains the houses have ovens. I’ve been teaching my companion how to cook and she’s been amazed at how much you can do with just some salt and pepper.

This last week we had to use what our land lady called ‘beastly acid’ to clean out all of our drains. It made our house stink for a while and I was pretty sure we were going to come home to a hole in the ground when we left the house after. But all is fine now.

I cannot begin to describe how ratchet this little apartment is but basically whenever the wind blows the ceiling shakes. It’s crazy. I love it here, but the combo of bugs everywhere, no hot water, and the ceiling caving in in areas is probably going to bother me once I start feeling settled in.

Here’s a good scripture for y’all.

Alma 26: 12 y 16.

Con muchísimos amor

Hermana Thelin
