Hola a todos! <Hello everyone!>
Firstly, I’d like to say thanks to my mom and dad for reminding me that I only have less than 100 days in my mission 😐. You guys rock. They did send me a whole bunch of snacks though, so I am very much blessed that they remember me. 🙂
The Holy Week was probably one of the funnest weeks of my mission. I remember it last year too and I think I’ve just come to the conclusion that the entire island of Puerto Rico is incredibly Christian. I mean where else would you see people carting around a cross for an entire afternoon just to “remember” the sacrifice of the Lord?
They might celebrate it a little weird, but I think its nice that they at least try to focus a little more on Him. The only thing that could be a little better would be if they would just focus on the living Jesucristo. But we cant be picky right? We’re here to poco a poco <little by little> remind people of the love that a living Savior has for us. What a happy message 🙂
We actually had some fun doing a little bit of contacting in a new place for the weekend of Pascua (the most important days for the Catholics are Friday-Sunday) called The Guancha. Look it up on Google, I’m sure you’ll see exactly how cool of a place it is. There were bars and dancing and karaoke and all kinds of things (even on Easter Sunday) that the Lord probs looked at with sadness as he remembered his very own sacrifice this Sunday. But remember this friends, the Savior atoned for everyone, even those who deny His blessings. And the really sad thing is that most of the people go there to just hang out and they skip the church this holy weekend.
But have no fear, Hna Beard and I are pros (well, we try to be) at helping people put down a martini and pick up a Jesus card. We talked to people that didn’t look like they wanted anything more than to be wasted and lost and we helped them feel the love the Savior had for them. We got very few people to commit to meeting with us again, but by testifying of a living Christ who loves us and a Heavenly Father who cares for us, we got people to sober up a little (literally). Vale la pena <Worth it>.
Who knows, maybe some of these people will look at their lives and connect the missing link one day and actually look for God actively. I refuse to have fear when testifying to someone who really needs to hear that they have a divine worth. The Lord loves them and dear friend, he loves YOU too. Don’t forget it.
I’ll catch you on the flip side.
AKA next Monday.
P.S. We made a remix of the hymn, “Bienvenida Dia Santo” <Welcome, Welcome Sabbath Morning> and changed it to “Bienvenida Viernes Santo” <Welcome, Welcome Good Friday> this week. It’s hilarious (and still respectful). Don’t you worry, dad, I rewrote it with class and style.
