Cuchillo y mochillo: two words i get mixed up all the time in not so great situations

Hola a todos!

This week was loquito! Wow I have some fun things to tell you, but bad news is that I forgot my camera and can’t send pictures. Hasta next week muchachos. 😉

So the main event this week was getting to see President for personal interviews. He called us and planned some fun same-day interviews that we struggled to find a ride to the church for, but we made it and had a good talk about goals and our trio. It’s always nice to receive revelation through presidente about how I can help myself and my area and my companionship.

Well, ok maybe that wasn’t the most eventful part of the week. It was probably when I almost cut a good portion of my finger off making some fabulous tacos. Let’s start with saying yes, I did still finish making the tacos and they were amazing. I love tacos and have learned much from Hermana Montoya about real Mexican food. OK, back to the bloody finger story. Don’t worry if you’re squeamish it’s not a gory story.

Basically, I just made bad choices, which included me trying to cut a chicken breast in my hand because the cutting board was in use, and with a distracted mind and a knife in my hand I ended up making a pretty deep cut, that went around a good third of my finger, not quite to the bone, but still deep.

The wife of my mission president informed me that they don’t do stitches on fingers so I’ve been caring for it the way a trained Medical Asistant would: keeping it clean with gauze and plenty of antibiotics. Long story short, we had some great tacos, I lost a bit of blood, and Presidente had the pleasure of taking some cool pictures of my finger for the “Hall of Fame/Shame.”

Update on investigators: Mermari still has her baptismal date for this upcoming Saturday, but we’re starting to feel a little rocky with it because her grandmother is still on the fence about letting her get baptized and is leaning towards telling her no. We have a backup date for her baptism that we’re hoping her grandmother will approve if not this Saturday. Oh, the struggles of the week before a baptism. 🙂

Julie and Carmen are progressing, but reeeeeeally slowly. Most of it is coming from the fact that they are just older people and have a hard time getting to church so early in the morning. If they could come to church they could be baptized tomorrow, but we keep having to tell them that they need to come to church first. They want to be baptized so bad.

Other investigators are coming and going, we’ve honestly been focusing on these three and we have a few new people from this last week that I think have real promise! here’s to hoping!

I’ve been filling up a book of Spanish jerga (slang) that my companions have been teaching me. It’s slowly filling up and hopefully I’ll be able to actually communicate with the youth here one day. Dang these kids have a bunch of slang that makes it hard to understand.

Friendly reminder that it’s the second to last week of this transfer and this one will be a doozy. Everyone thinks I’ll be leaving and replaced with a gringa who can drive and presidente is going home – finishing his mission, and we’ll be receiving a new mission presidente. I’m excited for changes and am hope that we can do what we need to do to end this transfer strong!

My scripture for this week is Ether 3. It’s a great example of how the impossible can be made possible with a strong faith that God can do anything. Love you all, let’s try to have a tranquila semana without hospital visits, OK fam? 🙂

Les amo mas que me aman
