Cabo Rojo

Hola a todos!

It’s been a great week here in the Ponce Zone. We have slowly but surely been making sense of our areas. I can’t say we even know what we’re doing yet, but we know a little more today than we did yesterday! I try to end every day being able to say that jajaj.

I wanted to tell you guys about my exchanges in Cabo Rojo (CR) this week. I went to the area to help my good friend Hermana Murphy get to know the people I was teaching before the area was shut down before the hurricane. We saw a few of my favorite human beings on the whole planet and I could not have been happier. The area of CR wasn’t very affected by the hurricane, but neither can I say that it was unaffected.

I thought it was really cute when we went to see one of the girls I was teaching, Katirira, who has about 10 years. She opened the door with her grandma and welcomed us in very excitedly and when we sat down they told us about their crazy story of what happened to them when the hurricane came. My prayers continue to be with them as they continue to adjust to their new life after the hurricane. But anyway, we asked if they still had their copies of the Book of Mormon and the whole family was quietly saying no, they lost it in the hurricane. But the little girl said that she brought hers along with the little hymn book I made her in the backpack she kept with her throughout the hurricane and she was reading it, but it got taken from her at one of the refuge sites.

I don’t know why, but that made me so happy. She treasured her copy of the Book of Mormon so much that she took it as one of her only belongings when she evacuated her house. It made me think of President Nelson’s story in General Conference when he talked to the African king (look it up – it’s GOOOOOOD).

How much is the Book of Mormon worth to all of us? Would it be in our evacuation backpacks, or would we take our laptops and tablets instead?

Love you all,
— Hermana Thelin

P/S/ Fanny packs are still cool here!
